Hemorrhoid cream, preparation H?

I have one and my wife bought me some preparation H cream... I have only used it for one day... It says to Insert into the anus for the cream to go into there and spread on the bump... I have not and do-not really want to put that into my hole... Will the cream still work if i do not inject it into my anus...Also, how long will it take for it to stop bleeding and feeling so weird?
