Hemorrhoids are very common in men, women and individuals of any age. There have been numerous studies that show the possibility of hemorrhoids being genetic.
Many experts believe that genetics play a huge part in determining the likelihood of someone developing hemorrhoids.
Studies have shown that a significant number of hemorrhoid sufferers, also have family members who suffer from the condition.
However, this belief is also being challenged by some who believe it is not the genetics that is the main factor but the lifestyle and environment that are similar within the family unit that makes other family members more likely to have hemorrhoids.
For example: if a wife sufferers with hemorrhoids and she makes mainly processed meals for herself and her family and she lives a sedentary lifestyle, then the rest of the family are probably more likely to be living a similar lifestyle and therefore are more likely to get hemorrhoids. Additionally, if the family members eat the same type of meals, such as diets lacking in fiber, they will likely all experience hemorrhoids.
One of the most common causes of hemorrhoids is constipation. It is suggested that you take precautions against constipation. However, if you are not used to a high fiber diet, as explained above, this may be a lifestyle change. You may reduce constipation by eating fiber rich foods, drinking plenty of water and exercising on a regular basis. In eating fiber rich foods, you help create a softer stool that is easier to pass and will lessen the irritation of current hemorrhoids.
Another likely possibility of hereditary relates to varicose veins and weak vein walls, these conditions are hereditary and these conditions lead to hemorrhoids. If this condition is combined with constipation or straining when you are having a bowel movement, hemorrhoids will likely form. Therefore, a correlation is made with these two items.
Another possibility is that a child may mimic their parent’s hemorrhoid inducing toilet behaviors. Consequently, when first toilet training children, you must teach proper cleaning habits and proper toileting.
Finally, two other conditions that are genetic, hypertension and obesity. These two conditions very often lead to hemorrhoids. Hypertension can also cause hemorrhoids because of the connections between the portal vein and the vena cava which occur in the rectal wall. To reduce hypertension, you should see a physician.
Obesity can also be a factor of increasing rectal vein pressure. Obesity alone can lead to hemorrhoids, as poor muscle tone or poor posture can also result in too much pressure on the rectal veins.
As always, hemorrhoids are preventable. Despite heredity, if you have a proper diet, drink plenty of water, and exercise, you can prevent hemorrhoids.
