By changing your diet to include high fiber and low fat, you can help prevent the irritating and painful symptoms of hemorrhoids. The introduction of fiber into your diet should be done gradually to avoid bloating and gas.
Although not always the case, if you are suffering from hemorrhoids, chances are you are not eating properly. The two biggest culprits when it comes to hemorrhoids causes are diet and exercise. A poor diet can give you either diarrhea or constipation, both of which lead to hemorrhoids over time.
For some people, something as simple as changing their diet can be the key to preventing the irritating and painful symptoms of hemorrhoids. Some people think that if they take the right sort of medication or they go in for a surgical procedure, they’ve taken such extreme measures that they don’t have to worry about their diet in the future. But as long as you’re okay with the idea of getting more hemorrhoids and going through the whole painful, embarrassing mess again, that’s true.
For any hemorrhoids cure to really work, however, a good and ongoing hemorrhoids diet is a must. To start with, a diet high in fiber and low in fat is essential in controlling constipation which can lead to hemorrhoids. A healthy human should ingest between 20 to 35 grams of fiber per day, along with about 64 ounces of water in order to keep the gastrointestinal tract moving properly and in good repair.
More than 35 grams per day would be too much fiber and could start robbing water from the body in addition to causing blockage problems.
Of course, there are plenty of fiber supplements out there you could take, but why not look first to food sources for your fiber.
Fiber is one of the most beneficial elements that we can easily add to our diet and can generally be found in grains, rice cereals, citrus fruits and vegetables.
There are two types of fiber: soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber can aid in lowering your cholesterol levels and keeping your body fit. In addition, it also stops glucose from entering the blood stream. Soluble fibers can be found in seasonal fruits, beans, lentils, oat bran, dried peas, leafy vegetables and barley.
Insoluble fiber, which are good for maintaining a healthy colon and rectum, include wheat, fruits, grains and fresh vegetables.
Foods such as green vegetables, apples and whole grains are a great place to start; however, introduce these foods gradually over a couple of weeks. If your stomach is not used to fiber, you may experience more gas for a week or two.
Eating fruits after every meal assists in bland bowel movements and helps in the prevention of hemorrhoids. Limit intake of low or no fiber foods which include ice cream, soft drinks, cheese, white bread and red meat. These foods often are high in fat.
In addition to what you eat, make sure that you also take the time to drink properly as well. Drink eight to ten glasses of water each day and avoid liquids that contain caffeine such as coffee and tea. These liquids may cause dehydration, which can lead to constipation.
Dietary modifications can be the key to preventing constipation which has a worsening effect on hemorrhoids. These simple modifications include increasing the volume of fibers in the diet and drinking plenty of water.
