Hemorrhoids are an extremely common problem, especially in western countries, where surveys suggest that as much as half of the population over 40 years of age may suffer some form of mild to severe discomfort from them. Practicing better posture whether at home or at work can help prevent hemorrhoids.
Sitting or standing for long periods of time does not help your hemorrhoid prevention efforts.
Avoid prolonged sitting or standing positions as it puts pressure on the anorectic region. Often work related jobs require us to stand or sit for long periods of time. If that is the case for you try taking breaks often during the day. If you sit all day get up for five minutes every hour to move around, even going to the water cooler.
People who work from a home-based office are often negligent about taking care that they move around enough during the day. Sit a timer if necessary to remind yourself to get up and move about. Walk to get the mail. Take a short walk outside on nice days. Do anything that will get you up and moving. That’s important in preventing hemorrhoids and for overall good health. Make it a point to exercise regularly if you work from home. Since you are most likely your own boss if you work from home, you have no one to answer to except yourself so be sure to set those limits and walk, exercise, and move around during the day.
Over an extended period, these sedentary positions create additional pressure on the hemorrhodial veins. While many of you have jobs that leave you no choice but to sit down for a long time, there are some helpful tips that you can use. Do not use the inflatable doughnut cushions that are available to pad your chair. Instead of helping the situation, these cushions actually increase the pressure on your anal veins.
Take time out for frequent breaks to stand up and walk for at least five minutes every hour as well as remember to shift frequently while sitting to avoid constant pressure on the same area of your posterior.
Prevention of hemorrhoids includes practicing better posture. Remember there are several factors that increase the chances of getting a hemorrhoid. Bad posture is one of them. Reducing regional pressure in such ways as improving posture and muscle tone and using and reducing bowel movement strain and time by squatting.
There is some research that suggests that squatting, a 'natural' method of bowel evacuation can assist in preventing, alleviating or curing hemorrhoids.

150 years ago, no one could have predicted how this change would affect the health of the population. But today, many physicians blame the modern toilet for the high incidence of a number of serious ailments.
