Alternative Hemorrhoid Treatment Methods: Compared

Hemorrhoids are very common in men women and individuals of any age. There are numerous treatment methods for hemorrhoids, including medications, natural treatments and surgeries. The treatment you choose may be based on the severity of the hemorrhoids.

There are numerous treatments for hemorrhoids, which range from medications, ointments, natural treatments to surgery.

One of the most common and newest treatments is aromatherapy.

There are two different ways to treat hemorrhoids with essential oils and these two methods can be used together. The first method involves a shallow bath of hot water. To use this method, you sprinkle twenty drops of lavender and twenty drops of juniper essential oils. Swish through the water with your hand to make sure that they are well mixed in the water, and soak for twenty minutes.

To use the second method, you will also need a carrier oil. The most popular carrier oil for aromatherapy is sweet almond oil. You will blend two drops of lavender and one drop of geranium oil with one ounce of the carrier oil, and apply to the area as you would an ointment.

In moving to more evasive techniques, hemorrhoidolysis, also known as Galvanic Electrotherapy or Ultroid, is widely used. It is a treatment for hemorrhoids that involves the application of a small probe to each hemorrhoid using manual pressure, which produces a very low grade of micro-electric current to the affected area that quickly and painlessly heals the hemorrhoid at the source and in turn produces a natural chemical reaction that liquefies and permanently shrinks the hemorrhoid tissue.

Another method is the use of a cryogenic device, which is used to place liquid nitrogen on the infected area. Liquid nitrogen causes rapid freezing when in contact with living tissue. This cold, which is very intense, causes the hemorrhoid to shrivel up or get sloughed off over time. Although this can be performed by a physician, there are at home cryogenic devices that you can purchase. You place the device in your freezer and perform a similar procedure on your own.

If there is no success with the other methods, a surgical intervention may be necessary. A hemorrhoidectomy is a surgical procedure used to remove hemorrhoids. As it is evasive and painful, it is only recommended for severe hemorrhoids.

This operation can be a closed, open or stapled hemorrhoidectomy. In a closed procedure, the wounds are all sutured closed. In an open procedure, the hemorrhoid tissues are excised and the wounds are left open.

In the closed procedures, the patient is sedated with a local anesthesia. The proximal part of the internal sphincter is cut free and the hemorrhoid complex is removed. The wound is closed with sutures. In contrast with open hemorrhoidectomy, no part is left open for drainage.

The best method for the treatment of hemorrhoids, of course, is prevention. There are many prevention techniques that can be used. However, when treatment is necessary, there are many options.
