Natural treatments are becoming increasingly popular, especially with the rising costs of medical treatment and the lowering statistics of the medically insured individuals.
Hemorrhoids are essentially varicose veins which swell up and protrude from the anal region. Some hemorrhoids are small and hardly noticeable with little to no symptoms, where as others can become rather enlarged, painful and may bleed.
It’s important to seek medical or alternative treatment for your hemorrhoids as soon as you begin to experience symptoms
Most of the time, if an individual notices a protruding vein or hemorrhoids in the anal area, the hemorrhoid can be digitally reinserted (with use of the fingers) and the problem will be solved. In cases where symptoms cause discomfort, such as pain, itching or burning, or when the hemorrhoid pops back out even after it has been pushed in, treatment may need to be more aggressive.
For severe hemorrhoids, it’s necessary that the sufferer seek medical attention. Often times, for hemorrhoids which will not stay in and insist on remaining protruding, surgery is the only option. By the time the hemorrhoid gets to this stage, there is usually no real cure for the hemorrhoids and it is likely that the person will have to return for treatment at least once a year.
If you are in a position where you have to sit or stand for long periods of time on a daily basis (like for your job, for example), it’s important that you’re getting up every three to four hours and taking a short five to ten minute break to walk around and stretch your body.
Eating a diet high in fiber and low in fat will also be helpful as chronic constipation or chronic diarrhea may contribute to hemorrhoids. Avoid straining while on the toilet and implement a foot stool to use during bowel movements if necessary. If you can avoid sitting on the toilet for prolonged periods of time, this will also be beneficial to hemorrhoid treatment and prevention.
Also avoid holding a bowel movement in for any length of time, making sure you’re using the bathroom and passing the bowel as soon as you realize you have to go. Holding a bowel back may cause the feces to become hardened and old, which may contribute to constipation, thus causing you to strain and stress the rectal area during bowel movements.
One alternative treatment method you can implement at home is to shrink the hemorrhoid with the use of an astringent, such as plantain. Using about a fistful of plantain leaves, crush them up as fine as you can and apply the healing juices from the leaves directly to the swollen area.
