Hemorrhoids are no fun and can cause a lot of pain and discomfort, which may interrupt our daily lifestyle. Hemorrhoids which go untreated may become worse and eventually can become so severe that surgical intervention is required.
Individuals who suffer from hemorrhoids are more likely to have a recurring problem with hemorrhoids. It’s important to pay attention to our bodies and do whatever we can to both prevent hemorrhoids from becoming a problem as well as avoid having current hemorrhoids get worse.
Not everyone notices a hemorrhoid is even there, but when we do it’s necessary that we relief the symptoms and take measures to avoid future problems
Hemorrhoids seem to affect more men than women and tend to be found in the elderly. Experts make the assumption that this is because elderly people tend to have poor muscle tone and weaker veins. Chronic constipation and chronic diarrhea seem to be main contributors to hemorrhoid problems.
Witch hazel is a wonderful substance which can be used to treat many ailments of the body. Witch hazel, also referred to as Hammemelis Virginia, is well known for its astringency.
The drawing action of the witch hazel reduces swelling and eases discomfort of itching. You can make your own witch hazel infusion by putting heaping teaspoon of witch hazel in hot water and steep for 15 minutes. You can buy distilled witch hazel in most stores which have a pharmacy section.
To utilize the distilled witch hazel, soak a clean cloth in the distilled witch hazel, applying to the affected area three to four times a day.
Finally, if you can obtain fresh witch hazel leaves, you can apply the leaf to the sore spot and sit tight (literally). This leaf should be worn throughout the day and should be replaced at least twice a day.
You may also try a suppository, such as Anusol, which most drugstores carry. Melt the suppository inside your anus, which will provide it with a protective coating. Be sure you are following the package instructions carefully before you insert the suppository.
Suppositories, such as Anusol, may also interact or interfere with other drugs, so be sure to speak with your doctor regarding this treatment before implementing it.
If you don’t want to use Preparation H or other over-the-counter topical cream, you moisten a cotton ball with witch hazel and dab it onto the swollen vein. This will help to relieve pain and itching associated with hemorrhoids.
If home remedies don’t seem to be working, make sure you speak with your doctor about further treatment options to ensure that the hemorrhoids don’t worsen.
