Hemorrhoids are more common than you might think. Because no one knows the direct cause of hemorrhoids, it can be difficult to treat hemorrhoids, especially when they become painful and irritating.
In severe cases, hemorrhoids may need to be surgically removed, but there are a lot of things the patient can do for themselves naturally and some of the natural methods of treatment may surprise you.
Laxatives can be addictive to an individual’s bowels and should not be used unless absolutely necessary and directed by a doctor
Apples can help treat both diarrhea and constipation, which are thought to be two of the leading causes of hemorrhoids. You may be asking yourself why apples are an effective treatment option.
Apples contain pectin, which is a soluble fiber that absorbs water into the stomach and the intestines. It swells, forming a gummy mass, which softens and moistens the stools. This can help to ease difficult bowel movements.
The bulk formed by the pectin can also help to firm up the watery stool of diarrhea. This ultimately will change it to a more desirable consistency. Either way you look at it, apples can help effectively treat both issues.
Hemorrhoid sufferers should also avoid sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time. If you must sit or stand daily for long periods of time, it’s important that you remember to get up and walk around every three to four hours.
Eating a diet full of good healthy fiber and water is also very important. Eating a diet full of fat can contribute to constipation or diarrhea. It is believed by some that obesity also contributes to hemorrhoids, but no one knows this for a fact.
If hemorrhoids become so severe that they become painful, itchy or start bleeding, or they begin to interfere with day-to-day life, it’s important for the individual to seek medical attention immediately. Some over-the-counter treatments can be effective for certain stages of hemorrhoids, but if left untreated, the hemorrhoids can become worse. In some cases, a surgical or laser procedure may be necessary in order to completely cure the hemorrhoids. Patients should follow the care and treatment advice of their family physician and should make sure they’re aware of all treatment options and possible side effects.
Apples may not be a cure for hemorrhoids, but they have so many positive benefits for your health, it definitely couldn’t hurt to make them part of your daily diet. If the treatment regimen your doctor has you on doesn’t seem to be effective, make another visit to your doctor to discuss further options.
