Hemorrhoid treatments are just about everywhere you look. There are many recipes and treatments you can implement in the comfort of your home, which can be just as effective (in some cases, more effective) than over-the-counter or physician prescribed treatments.
Hemorrhoids affect more than 70 % of Americans at some point in their lives. I’ve come across statistics which have put that range more towards 80 % and higher.
We’re not sure what exactly causes them, but there are a lot of things we can do to help prevent hemorrhoids.
Avoid straining while passing a bowel. You should also avoid sitting on the toilet for long periods of time. Sitting on a toilet isn’t really the most natural of positions for you to be in, so make sure you’re eating right and spending the least amount of time on the toilet in order to avoid making your hemorrhoids worse or even getting hemorrhoids at all.
Chronic constipation is thought to be one of the leading causes of hemorrhoids. Constipation should not be treated with the use of laxatives as they can be addictive and may do the body more harm than good. Many natural healers won’t even treat constipation because the reasons behind constipation are typically some other health issue.
Make sure that you use the restroom as soon as you realize that you have to go. Don’t hold in a bowel movement and don’t sit and strain. If you find that the feces is hard and large and difficult to push out without straining. Take a moment (if possible) to sit in a warm bath with Epsom salt and a couple of drops of lavender oil for ten to fifteen minutes and then try again.
You may also implement the use of a small foot stool to use while sitting on the toilet. Avoid reading the newspaper or a book when you’re going to the bathroom.
If you have to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time each day, make sure you’re taking a break every three to four hours and walking around to stretch everything out. Stay physically active and make sure you’re getting enough daily fiber. Avoid foods which are high in fat.
To create a hemorrhoid healing tonic, mix equal parts of Yarrow, Horse Chestnut, Butcher’s Broom and Rose Hips together. Take 1 large teaspoon of the herbal mixture and steep in 1 cup of hot water for ten minutes. Drink this as a tea two to three times per day.
These herbs are known tonics for the venous system and when taken over time, they can help strengthen your blood vessels, which may relieve hemorrhoids.
