Experts are still uncertain as to the exact cause of hemorrhoids, but one thing is for certain, hemorrhoids are more common the older we get. Still, it’s important to understand that hemorrhoids can affect both men and women (and children) of any age.
One out of every two adults over the age of 50 will suffer from hemorrhoids. Even before the hemorrhoids are formed, there is pressure in the veins of the anal area. This may be a result of over-filled intestines, due to constipation, which may cause straining in order to pass a hard or large stool.
The blood in the swollen vein coagulates, which makes a hard lump which clogs the vein. The clogged vein segment will then become infected and inflamed. Sometimes the inflamed vein will tear and the content will empty and the vein will bleed. After it has emptied its content, the vein may heal, however, but the hemorrhoid sufferer may develop a scar.
As we get older, our bodies weaken and an increased pressure on the anal veins may cause hemorrhoids
When the anal sphincter and muscles cramp or experience prolonged tension around the rectal opening, the blood stream from the anal area back towards the heart. Nervous and psychological tension may also cause tension in these muscles.

Incorporating bran into your diet will help to ensure your diet is full of fiber. Bran will stimulate the intestines to contract better and pass its content more rapidly. Linen seeds will also help by making the stool softer so that the stool is passed through the intestines easier.
Whenever possible, use natural oils, such as olive oil, sunflower oil, rape oil and soy oil. Oils such as these will give the intestinal content a soft consistency.
Topical balms may help alleviate inflammation and itching, stimulating tissue healing, alleviate cramping in the rectal sphincter, dissolve coagulated blood, kill bacteria, which cause infection in the affected area and lubricating the rectal opening or the end part of the rectum to make the stool pass more easily.
Oral pills or capsules can help treat hemorrhoids by giving the stools greater volume, which means the intestines are managing getting a hold of the stool easier and passing it through. Oral pills and capsules are also known to give the stool a smoother consistency, alleviate cramping and irregular contractions in the intestinal system, stimulate the regular and effective contraction of the intestines, alleviate itching and burning and stimulate tissue healing.
